Course Description

Grade 3 content is organized into six Alabama Content Areas of study:

  1. Operations and Algebraic Thinking
  2. Operations with Numbers: Base Ten
  3. Operations with Numbers: Fractions
  4. Data Analysis
  5. Measurement
  6. Geometry

Related standards are grouped into clusters, indicating what students should know or be able to do by the end of the grade.


Course Objectives

  1. Illustrate the product of two whole numbers as equal groups and represent as a written expression.
  2. Interpret the quotient of two whole numbers relating to equal shares.
  3. Solve word problems using multiplication and division within 100, representing situations with models, drawings, and equations.
  4. Determine the unknown whole number in multiplication or division equations involving three whole numbers.
  5. Understand properties of multiplication and the relationship between multiplication and division.
  6. Develop and apply strategies for multiplication and division.
  7. Use strategies based on properties and patterns of multiplication for fluency within 100.
  8. Solve two-step word problems using all four operations and write equations for unknown quantities.
  9. Recognize and explain arithmetic patterns using properties of operations.

Grading Policy

  • Gold (60%): Unit Tests, Assessments, Projects
  • Silver (30%): Quizzes, Center Activities
  • Bronze (10%): Participation, Homework

Class Policies and Expectations

  • The course will cover the material over the school year.
  • Students are expected to participate actively and complete homework on time.
  • Communication with the teacher is encouraged for any questions or concerns.
