All About Me

My name is Autumn Hunt, and I am excited to begin my first year at C.L. Salter Elementary School! I graduated from Jacksonville State University and The University of Alabama. I also hold a degree in School Library Media. Even with those degrees, I am a huge Auburn fan!

A few fun facts about me: my favorite color is pink, I love Diet Coke and gummy bears, and I enjoy helping children discover a love of learning and reading.

I am looking forward to a wonderful school year and can't wait to meet all of my students and families! Welcome to first grade! 💗📚🍎

Ms. Hunt’s Classroom Behavior Management Plan

Creating a Safe, Positive, and Supportive Learning Environment

At Ms. Hunt’s classroom, our goal is to create a safe, welcoming, respectful, and positive learning environment where every first grader feels valued and has the opportunity to learn and succeed.

We understand that children are learning not only academic skills, but also how to manage emotions, make good choices, solve problems, and interact appropriately with others. Our behavior plan is designed to teach, guide, and support students, while maintaining a classroom environment that allows everyone to learn.

Our Classroom Expectations

Students are expected to:

  • Be kind, respectful, and responsible.
  • Follow classroom directions.
  • Keep hands, feet, and objects to themselves.
  • Use appropriate classroom voices.
  • Stay engaged and participate in learning.
  • Respect classmates, teachers, classroom materials, and personal space.
  • Make safe and responsible choices.
  • Work toward becoming an independent learner.

Our Classroom Clip Chart

We will use a behavior clip chart as one tool to help students recognize and reflect on their choices throughout the school day.

The clip chart is not intended to label students. Instead, it provides students with a visual reminder that their choices matter and that they can make a better choice at any time.

Students may move their clip up or down throughout the day based on their choices.

🌈 Possible Behavior Levels

🌟 Outstanding Choices
Going above and beyond expectations, demonstrating leadership, kindness, responsibility, or exceptional effort.

😊 Great Choices
Consistently following expectations and making positive choices.

👍 Ready to Learn
Meeting classroom expectations and being prepared to learn.

💭 Think About It
A reminder to pause, reflect, and make a better choice.

⚠️ Teacher Conference / Parent Contact May Be Needed
Repeated or significant behaviors may result in a private conference with the teacher and/or communication with parents or guardians.

A student’s clip can always move back up. One difficult moment does not define a child or their entire day.

Individualized Seating and Learning Supports

Ms. Hunt may adjust a student's seating or location within the classroom when needed to help that student be successful.

Students may be moved:

  • Closer to the teacher for additional support and redirection.
  • Away from distractions.
  • Away from surrounding conversations or activities that interfere with learning.
  • Near classmates who provide positive learning models.
  • To another appropriate location in the classroom where they can better focus.
  • To an area that allows the student to work more independently.

Changing a student's seat is not a punishment. It is a strategy used to create an environment that helps the student focus, learn, and be successful.

Students may also be temporarily separated from particular distractions or classroom situations when doing so will help them regulate their behavior and return to learning.

Warnings, Checkmarks, and Redirection

When a student is having difficulty following expectations, Ms. Hunt will use developmentally appropriate reminders and redirection.

Depending on the situation, this may include:

  1. A verbal or nonverbal reminder.
  2. A warning and opportunity to correct the behavior.
  3. A checkmark or other classroom behavior reminder.
  4. A change in seating or location.
  5. A private conversation with the student.
  6. A conference to discuss the behavior and make a plan for improvement.
  7. Parent/guardian communication when appropriate.
  8. Additional school-based support when necessary.

Whenever possible, behavior concerns will be handled privately and respectfully rather than in front of classmates.

Calming Corner

We recognize that young children sometimes experience strong emotions. A student may become frustrated, sad, angry, overwhelmed, worried, or upset.

When appropriate, students may use our Calming Corner as a safe space to pause, breathe, regroup, and regain control of their emotions.

The Calming Corner is not a punishment or a place to avoid work. It is a tool for helping students learn healthy ways to manage emotions.

Students may use strategies such as:

  • Taking deep breaths.
  • Sitting quietly for a few minutes.
  • Using a calming tool.
  • Looking at a visual breathing or calming strategy.
  • Talking with the teacher when ready.
  • Returning to the learning activity once they are calm and ready.

Ms. Hunt will help students learn when and how to appropriately use this space.

Movement and Sensory Supports

Young children often learn best when they have appropriate opportunities to move.

When appropriate, students may be allowed to:

  • Use a small fidget item.
  • Stand beside or near their desk while completing work.
  • Change their working position.
  • Take a brief movement break.
  • Use an appropriate classroom seating option.
  • Move to a designated location that helps them refocus.

These supports are provided to enhance learning and attention, not to distract from instruction.

Students will be expected to use these tools responsibly and appropriately.

Student Conferences

When a behavior concern continues, Ms. Hunt may have a private conference with the student.

The purpose of the conference is to help the child:

  • Understand what happened.
  • Identify how their behavior affected their learning or others.
  • Think about a better choice.
  • Identify strategies that may help next time.
  • Make a plan for moving forward.

Our focus is always on learning from mistakes, taking responsibility, and trying again.

Parent/Guardian Communication

Ms. Hunt believes that families and teachers are partners in a child's education.

Parents or guardians may be contacted when:

  • A behavior pattern continues despite classroom interventions.
  • A behavior significantly interferes with the student's learning.
  • A student's behavior affects the learning or safety of others.
  • A serious behavior concern occurs.
  • Additional support or collaboration would benefit the student.

Parent communication is intended to keep families informed and to work together to help the child succeed. A phone call or message about a behavior concern does not mean that a child is "bad." It means we are working together to support the child.

Our Goal: Teach, Support, and Encourage

Our classroom behavior plan is built around the belief that children can learn to make positive choices when they are given clear expectations, consistent guidance, encouragement, and support.

We will celebrate positive behavior, teach appropriate behaviors, provide opportunities to make better choices, and help students learn strategies they can use throughout their lives.

Most importantly, students will know:

“You are loved. You are valued. You are capable. You can make mistakes, learn from them, and try again.”

A Partnership Between Home and School

Thank you for partnering with Ms. Hunt to help create a classroom where every child can feel safe, feel supported, build confidence, and grow as a learner.

Together, we can help our first graders develop the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral skills they need to have a successful school year.

We are not looking for perfect children—we are helping children learn, grow, and become their very best selves.
